Contrary to the fire-throwing antagonistic dragons depicted in Western culture, Chinese dragons signify good fortune, compassion, benevolence, power, and prosperity. They are considered to be the gods of weather and water bodies, like clouds, rain, oceans, rivers, waterfalls, and lakes.
